What is a restroom trailer, and what does it need on site?

A restroom trailer is a towable building with real flushing toilets, vanity sinks, mirrors, lights and heat or air conditioning. It needs a garden hose with drinking water, a dedicated 110-volt, 20-amp outlet within 100 ft, and level ground the truck can reach. A generator and water tank can be added where there is neither.

When is a restroom trailer the wrong choice?

A restroom trailer is the wrong choice when the site is soft, sloped or off-road, when there is no water and no room for a generator, or when the trailer would sit more than 100 ft from power. Waterfront lawns after heavy rain are a common problem on the Eastern Shore.

In those cases, deluxe flushing units give guests a flush and a sink with no hookups at all. We check the site from photos or a visit before you book a trailer.

How does restroom trailer delivery and setup work?

The trailer arrives 1 to 2 days before the event and is leveled, plugged in and connected to water. The crew tests the flush, lights and climate control before leaving. Pickup is the next business day after the event. Multi-day rentals get a pump and restock visit between days.

  1. Site check: photos of the spot, the path in, and the outlet and spigot.
  2. Delivery: leveled on blocks; steps and handrails set.
  3. Hookup: garden hose to the water inlet; power cord to the dedicated outlet or generator.
  4. Event: stocked with toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels and air freshener.
  5. Pickup: the tank is pumped and the trailer is towed out the next business day.

Questions people ask before booking

How far ahead should I book a restroom trailer?
Book a restroom trailer 2 to 3 months ahead for May through October weekends. Trailer fleets are small, and Eastern Shore wedding dates fill early. Off-season weekdays can often be booked with a week's notice.
Can the trailer plug into a regular outlet?
The trailer needs a dedicated 20-amp, 110-volt circuit with nothing else running on it, such as a garage outlet. A shared outdoor outlet with lights or a band on it can trip the breaker. We can rent a quiet generator instead.
Is the restroom trailer wheelchair-accessible?
Standard restroom trailers have steps, so they are not wheelchair-accessible. Pair the trailer with a wheelchair-accessible porta potty on the same path.
Do restroom trailers have air conditioning?
Our trailers have air conditioning for summer and heat for cooler months, along with interior lights and exhaust fans.
Can a trailer stay for a week-long project or a disaster shelter?
Trailers rent by the day, the week or the month. Long rentals include scheduled pumping and restocking, and we can add a holding-tank pump-out if no sewer connection is available.
