How many porta potties does OSHA require on a construction site?
OSHA requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers. Sites with 20 or more workers need 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. Sites with 200 or more need 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers. The rule is OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c), Table D-1.
| Workers | OSHA minimum (Table D-1) | What we recommend (weekly service) |
|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | 1 toilet | 1 standard unit |
| 11–20 | 1 toilet | 2 standard units |
| 21–40 | 1 seat + 1 urinal per 40 | 3–4 standard units |
| 41–80 | 2 seats + 2 urinals | 5–8 units, or 2 services a week |
| 200+ | 1 seat + 1 urinal per 50 | Custom plan with a restroom trailer |
Legal minimum vs. comfort: Table D-1 is the minimum. One unit per 10 workers on a 40-hour week keeps units usable to the end of the week. Your safety plan or general contractor may set a stricter count. This is not legal advice.
What does weekly porta potty service on a job site include?
Weekly service includes pumping the waste tank, scrubbing and sanitizing the seat, urinal, walls and floor, adding fresh deodorizer, and restocking toilet paper and hand sanitizer. It is included in the 28-day price. The driver leaves a service tag on the door with the date.
Busy sites with more than 10 workers per unit, hot summer weeks, or crews of 20+ can add a second weekly service. Tell us your crew size on the call and we set the schedule.
Where should job-site toilets be placed?
Place job-site toilets on firm, level ground within a short walk of the work, at least 10 ft from building openings, and where the service truck can reach every week. Keep them off septic fields, out of drainage swales and away from the dumpster pick-up path.
- Mark the spot with paint or a stake, and send the gate code with the order.
- Moving crews (paving, fencing, utility work) can use a towable unit on a small trailer they hitch and move themselves.
- For framing and roofing on Eastern Shore lots, keep units off soft fill that turns to mud after rain.

How does job-site billing work?
Job-site rentals bill every 28 days, not by calendar month. The first cycle includes delivery. Later cycles bill only the rental, which already includes weekly service. Rentals renew until you call for pickup, so call when the job wraps up to stop billing.
General contractors and builders can apply for invoice billing with a purchase order number on every invoice. First orders are paid by card.
