How many porta potties do you need for an event?

Plan 1 standard porta potty per 50 guests for an event up to 4 hours, 1 per 40 guests for 5 to 8 hours, and add 1 unit for every 4 when alcohol is served. At least 1 unit in each cluster should be wheelchair-accessible. Add 1 handwashing station per 2 toilets when food is served.

Counts include the accessible unit. Worked example: 150 guests for 6 hours ÷ 40 = 3.75, rounded up to 4; with beer, add 1 = 5.

When will the porta potty arrive for a weekend event?

For Saturday or Sunday events, units arrive on Friday and are picked up on Monday at no extra cost. Weekday events get delivery the day before. The driver calls 30 minutes ahead, so you can be home or simply mark the spot.

Need it the same day? Call by noon. Saturday delivery is also available until 7 p.m., but Friday drop-off avoids any chance of the truck arriving after guests.

Where should event porta potties go?

Place event units 50 to 100 ft from the food and seating, downwind, on level ground and along a lit path. Turn doors away from the tables. Keep them close enough to find after dark, since most Eastern Shore events run past sunset.

  • Group units together so the line forms in one place, with the accessible unit at the end nearest the path.
  • Set handwashing stations between units, not behind them.
  • Waterfront lawns: keep units above the high-tide line and strapped down if the forecast calls for wind.

Are event units different from construction units?

Event units are the cleanest units in the fleet and go only to parties, weddings and public events. Each one is pressure-washed, sanitized and stocked with extra toilet paper before delivery. Event rentals do not include servicing during a short event; multi-day events add a service visit.

Festivals, fairs and races that run several days usually need a service visit each night. We plan that on the call.

Questions people ask before booking

Can I rent a porta potty for just one day?
One-day rentals are the most common event booking. The unit arrives the day before and leaves the day after, and the price is the same as a one-day rental.
Do I pay more for Friday-to-Monday?
Friday-to-Monday costs nothing extra. It is the standard schedule for weekend events, since it makes sure the unit is in place before guests arrive.
We have one bathroom in the house and 60 guests. Do we need a porta potty?
One house bathroom handles about 20 to 25 guests over an afternoon. With 60 guests, one standard porta potty keeps the line and the traffic out of your house.
What if it rains or the event is postponed?
Call at least 24 hours before delivery to move the date at no charge. Units handle rain fine, but put them on gravel or high ground so guests stay out of the mud.
Can you set it up the morning of the event instead?
Morning-of delivery can be requested, but there is no exact arrival time. Day-before delivery guarantees the unit is ready when guests arrive.
Do I need a permit for a porta potty at a public event?
Events on public streets, sidewalks or parks need a town permit, and the restroom plan is part of that application. In Cambridge, the special event application is due 60 days before an existing event and 120 days before a new one.
