How many restrooms does a backyard wedding need?
A backyard wedding of 100 guests over 5 to 6 hours with a bar needs a 2-stall restroom trailer, or 2 deluxe flushing units plus 1 standard unit. For 150 guests, use a 3-stall trailer or 4 flushing units. Add 1 wheelchair-accessible unit for older guests.
Run your numbers in the calculator.
Trailer or flushing units: which one fits your yard?
Choose a restroom trailer if you have a dedicated 110-volt outlet, a garden hose and level, firm ground the truck can reach. Choose deluxe flushing units if the lawn is soft, the outlet is shared, or the spot is far from the house. Both give guests a flush and a sink.
Compare restroom trailers and deluxe flushing units.
The checklist, in order
Work through these 8 steps from 3 months out to the day after. Booking and the site check come first because trailer and deluxe dates fill early on Eastern Shore wedding Saturdays from May to October.
- 3 months out: book the trailer or deluxe units.
- 2 months out: send photos of the spot, path, outlet and spigot.
- 1 month out: confirm guest count and add an accessible unit.
- 2 weeks out: plan lighting along the path (lanterns or string lights).
- 1 week out: mark the spot; tell neighbors if units face their lot.
- Day before: delivery and hookup; test the flush and lights.
- Wedding day: put a basket of extras inside (mints, hair ties, wipes).
- Day after: pickup on the next business day.
Where should wedding restrooms go?
Place wedding restrooms 75 to 150 ft from the tent, downwind, on level ground, out of the main photo lines, and along a path lit after dark. Waterfront yards should keep units above the high-tide line.
